SHIFT Egypt: Using Games to Engage and Shift Mindsets

UNDP Egypt Partners with icecairo, the Engagement Lab and the GrEEK Campus for a Gamification Event in Cairo, 25-27 September 2014

In collaboration with icecairo and the Engagement Lab, UNDP Egypt will host a "SHIFT - UNDP Week of Innovation Action" event for young Egyptians to explore gaming mechanisms as means to find innovative ideas and solutions that address a host of development challenges such as youth unemployment, poverty and environmental degradation.  an open session will be held at the GrEEK Campus following by a two-day hands-on workshop at icecairo.  Check out the partners helping make the SHIFT happen:

The Engagement Lab is an applied research lab at Emerson College (Boston, USA) focusing on the development and study of games, technology, and new media to enhance civic life. The Lab works directly with its partner communities to design and facilitate civic engagement processes, augment stakeholder deliberation, and broaden the diversity of participants in local decision-making. Along with the Salzburg Academy on Media and Global Change, the Engagement Lab also serves as the hub of a global network of engagement and new media organizations. (from organization website)

icecairo is a Social Enterprise, and part of the international icehubs network, that started with iceaddis in Ethiopia and icebauhaus in Germany. icecairo is a community-powered green tech innovation hub. We work together to solve environmental and social challenges using the brilliance of the icecairo community, and to turn these challenges in to green businesses. (from organization website)

The GrEEK CAMPUS is Cairo’s first technology and innovation park in the heart of Cairo, offering state-of-the-art office spaces for both startups as well as established multinational technology and media companies. With the rapidly growing ICT sector in Egypt, a technology park that allows aspiring tech start-ups to thrive and grow in a proper entrepreneurial ecosystem was essential. The concept and vision were crafted by Ahmed El Alfi, Founder of TATP, the operating company of THE GrEEK CAMPUS. (from organization website)
